Sevenoaks Hi-Fi

The Company

Sevenoaks Hi-Fi was founded by Paul Lee-Kemp in 1972, later joined by Peter O'Brien and operated as a specialist hi-fi retailer from premises in London Road Sevenoaks.

The business progressed well and by 1980 branches were opened in Woolwich, Chatham, Tunbridge Wells and Brighton. Today there are 11 company owned branches.

The first franchised branch opened in 1991 at Cheltenham, followed shortly by another in Canterbury. We currently have 20 franchised branches with a further 8 locations due to open within the next 6 months.

The growth of Sevenoaks has proved that the combination of skilled marketing backed with extensive advertising works.

The Market

The market for home entertainment products is vast and therefore it has been important to clearly define our target market. Recognising the correct market area has been one of the prime ingredients of Sevenoaks success. Because of this, our advertising is carefully focused towards the more serious consumer who reads the specialist press and normally buys a component sound system.

We consider the Sevenoaks market to be situated between the high-end, exotic systems, sold by a limited number of hobbyist dealers and the low priced systems sold by the multiples and catalogues.

With careful ongoing market research Sevenoaks has positioned itself into the major part of the market where buyers appreciate knowledge and service that can only be offered by independent retailers. Ongoing market research allied to 25 years experience ensure that we are promoting the right products at the right time.

The Sevenoaks Approach

Our philosophy is to offer our customers a wide range of value for money products in comfortable surroundings, at competitive prices, from well trained presentable staff. The products are backed with our optional extended warranty and first class after sales service.

Advertising

With a substantial budget, our advertising dominates the specialist hi-fi press. Sevenoaks takes many pages every month in various specialist magazines including WHAT HI-Fi, HI-FI Choice, Gramophone, Hi-Fi World, What Video, What Home Entertainment, Classic FM, Classic Car and specialist home cinema publications. We also regularly advertise on local radio. Our advertising is designed to supplement and support the branch network, highlighting our unique quality image and competitive pricing.
